![]() Olsen returned to BPEI as chief resident and then assistant professor of ophthalmology. Following a vitreoretinal fellowship at Duke University, Dr. He received his MD from Northwestern University and then did a residency in ophthalmology at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute (BPEI). Olsen attended Stanford University where he was awarded Phi Beta Kappa and his B.S. He enjoys spending time with his family as well as playing hockey and tennis.ĭr. He has published over 30 peer-reviewed scientific papers, written several book chapters, given over 50 presentations at local, national, and international meetings, and received numerous clinical and research awards. ![]() He also serves as Clinical Instructor for the University of Pittsburgh Department of Ophthalmology. Knickelbein is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Uveitis Society, the American Society of Retinal Specialists, the Society of Head Fellows, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, and the Pittsburgh Ophthalmology Society. He completed fellowship training in Uveitis, Ocular Immunology & Medical Retina at the National Eye Institute, National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. ![]() His ophthalmology residency was with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident. Knickelbein received his BS in biochemistry from Duquesne University and both MD and PhD degrees from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine through the Medical Scientist Training Program.
